Please Remember: Plant orders are shipped separately from Dry Goods orders via USPS Priority Mail, ONLY. Please choose the USPS Priority Mail option (as opposed to "ground service") as your shipping option at checkout for Plants.
If you wish to purchase some other "dry" product (which is anything other than plants), you must place a second order using UPS Ground as your shipping method. Thank You!!
Remember, We've always offered a 10% discount when buying plants in volume….
If you buy plants in volume, we give an additional 10%-off our already low, Sale price.
Here's how it works: - If you buy for example, 12 bunches (or more) of Anacharis, or 3 (or more) water lilies, you'll save an extra 10% on the cost of those plants.
- Have enough to share with your watergardening friends (or trade your friend for a piece of that special plant, you've had your eye on from their pond)!
- Pond and Watergardening Clubs…. Double your savings! Make one order for all of your members! Save on plants….Save on Shipping with our single flat shipping rate on plants! As of 2012 (actually since 2002), a flat shipping rate of $13.95 is in place whether you buy one plant or 1000 plants. (Now in this economy.....that's one heck of a great deal!!)
Plants must be of the same variety (same plant / same color) to take advantage of the savings. You must buy at least: - 12 or more - submerged plants (same plant / same color).
- 12 or more - floating plants (same plant / same color), or
- 4 portions or more - of Azolla, Duckweed or Salvinia.
- 6 or more - hardy or tropical bog plants (same plant / same color).

Welcome to 2012....
January 1, 2012 ....After having another warm autumn, December 2011 turned out to be more of the same. But on October 2nd, we had our first major snow storm. It was warm and sunny the day before on Saturday. Then Sunday morning they called for snow. We got about 5" that day. We didn't have another major snow storm until the end of the season where we received about 10" of snow.
February and March broke decades old records - just as it did around the rest of the country, with 70º and 80ºF temps. It was warm enough that it jump started our growing season by about a month and a half. ....we think Mother Nature was asleep at her job! May brought much colder weather, which brought it back to normal. However, it did damage to all the food-crops - including our own.
Then this summer brought record-breaking temps again, but the other way. The northeast has seen its share of 90ºF (plus) days. Again....the most in many decades. We can't wait to see what Autumn and the upcoming winter will bring. Will it be more of the same....or an icy blast from the depths of the Arctic? Please stay tuned!!
Happy New Year - Welcome to 2011....
January 1, 2011 ....After having one of the warmest autumns in quite a while, December 2010 turned out to be one of the coldest, iciest months on record. But on December 31st it was 62ºF and sunny, and on January 1st it was 57ºF and rainy.
A lot of our customers lost fish last winter, due to the extended period of deep snow cover over their ponds last year. It's important that you keep a hole in the ice to allow toxins to escape from the water. The larger fish seem to be affected more than the smaller ones. They need to breath. Do this by using a pond de-icer. You can view our pond de-icers on the following page: Pond De-Icers / Winterizing
A nice change/addition is on the horizon for our wholesale customers in 2011, but we'll speak more about that sometime later this year. Please keep your eyes and ears tuned in to these pages!
Welcome to Y2010....
February 2010 ....Mother Nature hit us with just about everything she had on the 5th of this month!
Last winter was cold, but this month we experienced record (horrible) weather. We were hit with everything from ice - to the second snowiest February on record. Starting on the 5th of this month - nearly 3-feet of snow fell from the sky - all within a period of two days. Oh yeah....the power was out for ten long, cold days, too. Brrrrr!!
The snow stayed on the ground through to mid-March, which is unusual for this part of Pennsylvania. At least some of the nasty bugs were held back due to the extended cold temps and the snow cover.
A lot of our customers lost fish this winter, due to the extended period of deep snow cover over their ponds - especially their prized (larger) koi. It's imperative that you keep a hole in the ice to allow toxins to escape from the water. The larger fish seem to be affected more than the smaller ones. They need to breath. Do this by using a pond de-icer. You can view our pond de-icers on the following page: Pond De-Icers / Winterizing

Welcome to Y2009....
January 09' ....Here in the northeast, this month has been brutally cold.
The ground has been frozen solid since the second week of December. We've had some of the coldest temperatures we've experienced in a long time. We've had ice storms unlike those of the past, and on a cold day in February a wind storm blew through that had sustained speeds of 40 (plus) mph with gusts measured at 92mph. Don't know what the wind-chill factor was, but it sure was cold.
We're sure to get at least a little more cold weather and finally maybe some measurable snow!! Due to the cold temps, hopefully the bugs will not be a problem this spring.
Well, the bugs weren't a problem until now. Summer Finally arrived this week (7-27-09)! This has been one of the coolest Spring/Summers on record, here in the northeast....with very little rain to speak of. Finally, we've had a solid week of (plus) 80ºF and with the heat - came the rain. At our location, we haven't had one day in the 90's so far this year. Bring it on!!
What's new this year??
In the greenhouse....
There's not much (new) news for plants this year.
We'll be offering more of the plants that you've been requesting.
Dwarf Giant Papyrus continues to be a very popular plant. It's a very compact version of our Giant Papyrus, at about twenty-four to thirty inches tall at maturity. They look great in small ponds and container gardens, or even by themselves in a waterproof container on your balcony. The starter plants we receive from our propagator sell out early every season. GET YOUR ORDERS IN EARLY for this plant, as we only have a limited supply available for 2009. For 2009, we're offering them in 2" containers. They're sure to be a sellout again for this year.
We're beginning sell out of plants earlier in the year. To you pond installers, associations or homeowners thinking about building a pond, our advice would be to purchase your plants ASAP before the plants your job requires are sold out. You can't always get these plants late in the season.
Online....
Not much here, either. Our New Website has been up and running for two years now, and has almost run flawlessly!! We have not received any calls or emails concerning website performance to date.
We hope you are comfortable with the new site. We plan on making a few design changes, but won't mess with the looks much.
In the shipping department....
We have not raised our plant shipping prices since 2001 (prior to that the price for shipping plants was $12.95). However, the time has (again) come where we have to make a decision if we're going to raise them - or not. We're trying very hard to keep our shipping fees from going up for as long as possible. The shippers have been brutal to us over the years, and we have done our best to absorb their increasing fees without passing them on to our customers.
As you already know, gas prices went through the roof in 2008, but dropped nearly in half late in the year. Hopefully they'll stay stable for the remainder of the year. Place your orders as early as you can to lock in our present shipping fee. We won't raise yours even if we do decide to raise our shipping rates.
Miscellaneous....
Most ponds in all zones should be cleaned by mid-to-late March.
Order hard to get / fast selling plants such as our Dwarf Giant Papyrus, as well as lotus tubers before they're gone again for the season.
Inspect your filters and pumps before the season begins, to make sure they're clean and in working order.
Check and repair leaks in your pond liner now, so you won't have to later on in the season.
Order your beneficial bacteria, submerged and floating plants (including water lilies) early, to get your pond off to a good start.
When all is done....sit back and relax!
And as always….
Enjoy your watergarden and the friends that it will bring!
Let's hope that 2009 proves to be another (fairly) quiet year on the hurricane front. We don't want to see any more devastation caused by hurricanes such as Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
