Floating plants float freely on the surface, absorbing nutrients with their dangling roots.
Azolla, Duckweed and Salvinia is sold in ¼-cup "dry" portions (though we usually give more unless our stock is low) and come sealed in a plastic bag. When you receive these plants, simply empty the contents of the bag into your pond.
Water Hyacinth and Water Lettuce are sold as (single) floating plants, sometimes with small plantlets attached to them. Just toss them in the water and forget about them. Mosaic Plant and Sensitive Plant is sold as a rooted (or unrooted) cutting that is at least 6" to 8" in length. Parrot's Feather is sold as rooted or unrooted bunched cuttings of six or more stems.
Floating plants (with the exception of Mosaic Plant and Sensitive Plant) do not need to be planted in soil....simply float them on the water. Mosaic Plant and Sensitive Plant should be planted in soil and allow their leaves to float on the water surface.
